Wow, it was great fun and actually quite touching for me to collaborate with my pop on that last blog post. I know how much it meant to him as well. He was very moved by your comments. They truly touched his heart. There is still time to comment if you have not. I love to read the comments and he does too. I have to say that it still baffles me that I get between 200 to 400 hits a day and I average about 6-7 comments a post. Why is that? Well anyway, I told him that he should start his own blog and I will link to it. I think he may be considering it. I told him that I have found blogging to be a wonderful outlet and I know that he would love it too.
OK, so here is what is on my mind today. I will give you a hint. What is on my mind is what is not in my stomach.
Have you guessed yet?
You probably guessed it....I am on a diet...UGH!! I know, I know..I should be much more positive than that but quite honestly, so far I am not. I loathe the idea of trying to lose weight. I have done it before with HUGE success so I know it can be done. I actually lost 75 pounds about 12 years ago and kept it off for several years but I got complacent again and over the past few years some of those pounds have slowly crept back up on me again. My problem is that I am an an emotional eater. If I have an emotion (which is all the time ;0) I eat to accompany it. If I am happy then I want to celebrate with a good meal. If I am sad or anxious then food helps me dull the pain. If I am under stress which has been the case for the past couple of years...well that is the worst of all. I eat to push those feelings away. Between my failing real estate company and all of the issues we have had to face the past year with Ethan's development, I have put on 20 lbs. I had some eight to 10 pounds already creeping back anyway so need to lose about 28 lbs. That will bring me to a healthy weight and BMI.
It is actually not the aesthetic reasons that pushed me to this diet. I mean c'mon.. would a vain person allow these pictures to be posted up on her blog? I think not!! What is really driving me to do this are these two reasons:
1. My children - I want to stay healthy for all three of them and continue to keep up physically with the Dynamic Duo. At 47 years young it is more important than ever.
2. I can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe in a larger size, nor do I want to!
Anyway, this time out I am following the Weight Watchers Flex Program Online. Doing it online suits my personality perfectly but I do not want to lose the accountability factor, so that is where you come in. The reason that I am going public with my weight loss program is that I need to be accountable to others (Hey, what can I say, I respond well to public humiliation ;0)
That is the reason that I am blogging about this subject. It came to me today that there may be others out there in the blogisphere that may want to join me in this quest. If so, I think it would be very cool to have a separate blog for the weight loss effort and we can be of daily support to each other. If you would like to make it a private blog, I can do that by vote of everyone that wants to participate. Either way, I will still post my weekly weigh in results here as well as my thoughts on my progress. I am sure that this would be a huge source of support for myself and others that may want to join me. Hey, it may even make it fun, so whether you need to lose 10 pounds or 100 pounds, let's do it together!
Excuse me in advance if weight loss talk is not your bag. Please feel free to gloss over those posts if you feel the need but like I said; this is something that I need to do.
Thanks in advance for your support. My children thank you too as they will benefit from a healthier and therefore happier mommy.

While I know that I totally suck at dieting, I'm a big believer in WW. And doing it online helped me lose 30 pounds before we adopted Erin. Too bad I haven't kept it all off.
My main problem is drinking water instead of soda. Since I'm allergic to nutrasweet, diet soda is out of the question. Well, that & not eating properly during the day.
I'm in just so I can get started drinking water & letting go of my coca cola addiction. BTW, can you tell me how the Flex Program works? I looked at it but couldn't make heads or tails of it.
Can you send me the online website addy so I can check it out? I am going to try too.
Okay, this is pretty creepy . . . or cool. Great minds! Yes, I could use the support, yes, I am an emotional eater, and yes, I need to stay young in body as well as in heart for my spicy dragon. So, on with the diet club!!

You Go Girl! I'd love to join you, I just don't know if I would stick to it. I'd be the first drop-out. I am such an emotional eater, it's awful. I'm really an eater for any reason. I love the way certain things taste and it seems that I just can't get enough so I keep eating and eating and eating. Sign me up, but like I said, I'll be the first to drop out.
Ok Lori- Count me in! I am in desperate need to lose a few pounds- more than a few! Having the Moose and Goose to chase around may keep me young- but I got to be here to be kept young.

Hi ladies:
The Weight watchers Flex Plan is described here:
http://www.weightwatchers.com/plan/int/quickstart_02.aspx
The reason that I chose that one vs the core plan is the ability to be a bit less planned. I am not good at following set menus. They also give you an additional point value for the week for spurges. You can use it up in one shot or spread it out during the week. You can also trade food points for activity points.
You can go to weightwatchers.com to sign up. I took the three month online plan and I really like it. It is so easy to calculate a food's point value.
Come join me in this journey :)
I am also a big believer in WW. I did their program a long time ago, and was able keep the weight off for a long time. I would love to lose at least another ten pounds! :O) What are you planning to do to exercise? Maybe we could do something together once or twice per week like walking or yoga or tennis...:o)
Lori, stop by my blog, there is a little something there for you!
Okay, Lori, I am in...I want to lose 15 pounds. Now, yeah, my blog is Runnergirl...and I am a marathon runner and a tiathlete...but I don't eat correctly (as I am eating cereal for lunch). I should be a freaking twig for the amount of working out that I do but I feel like if I run 10 miles I can eat cookies or candy or whatever I want. And oh do I love my glass of wine. I need some structure and accountability. Hauling my booty to WeWa to get skinny. I want to drop the lbs so I can getfaster for the half ironman I plan to do next year!!!!
Your post is great timing for me. I have been trying to loose 5 lbs and ended up gaining 4 lbs! Clearly I didn't try very hard. So as if 5 wasn't hard enough, now I have 10 lbs I need to try to loose. But it is very hard to do with a hypo thyroid and all of the junk food I crave and eat all day long. Now that I'm 40 something my body is starting to show and feel the effects of not eating properly. I would like to follow along and get some inspiration from your milestones. The only thing I can try to commit to is some sort of exercise. Walking in the evenings or something. Keep me posted. Good luck!
All the best to you. I know what it is to be up, then way down, then middle range, then up (argh)
WW is a well-structured program and the one I recommend to my patients (I just need to be better at practicing what I preach ;0)
Stop by. I left you something.
Hi Lori,
Just catching up on your blog and I see your starting WW. What a great way to sensibly lose weight!!!! I started Jan 3rd. and to date lost 36 pounds, it's such a great plan and it really teaches you how to live, not diet!!!!! Take that word out of your vocabulary and look at it as a lifestyle change. the flex plan is great and what I have been following.
I am also an emotional eater so I know how that goes. I put on so much weight in the past 8 years is was getting out of control. At 46 I needed to get healthy because one day hopefully I'll have a little one too!!!!!
Well good luck on this journey, if you need support I am a big WW fan (I go to meetings every week without fail, but online is great too, that is what my sister did and she lost weigh too)I've got great recipes too!!!!!
Take care,
Kathryn
Lori, I wish you only the best. WW is a great plan, I lost 35 lbs. on it 10 years ago. Of course there have been ups and downs since then and I'm in the mid range of weight for me presently. The trip to China and a busy 2 year old have taken 15 lbs. off me in the last 2 months. I'm thinking of joining WW again to lose another 10-15 lbs. I am sooo an emotional eater too.
Good luck with the dieting, Lori. I think it's a great idea to gather up people to be supportive of each other and lose weight together.
By the way, have you heard of Stacker 2's new Diet & Energy shot? It's great if you're looking to lose some pounds and gain an energy boost. It's zero calories and comes in a tasty Tropical Blast flavor, so check it out at www.stacker2.com
I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds by commenting on your post, Lori. I work with Stacker 2 so if you or anyone else has any questions about our drink feel free to ask me. We'd love to hear what you think of it! Have a great day.
